C-Train Construction
We’re Open for Business!!!
Construction on the LRT platform is going on fast and furiously in front of Kerby Centre. Kerby Centre will NOT be closed for any period during construction. Please visit this page for the latest progress reports.
April 20, 2012 - Update from Chad Geiger - Senior Manager Facilities
A large milestone in LRT was reached in April - Phase 1 is complete. Phase 1 consisted of the preparation on and underneath the ground for the trains. Upgrades to all the utilities and laying the tracks has been the result of the last year and a half of work in front of Kerby Centre.
As we move into Phase 2, which is the above ground construction of the platforms, we are excited that most of the vibrations, noise and fumes from heavy machinery is nearing the end. The completion of the dual platforms in front of Kerby is anticipated to be in the fall/winter of 2012.
Click HERE for a project update and architectual drawings of the finished platform from the City of Calgary.
The Kerby Centre addition is nearing completion as well. Slated to open in mid-may 2012, deficiencies are now being corrected. It is a welcomed site for Kerby Centre visitors, volunteers and staff. See the picture below.
Finally, some access updates:
- The Kerby Centre east parking lot will be re-configured for 5-6 weeks. The turn around will be moved further south eliminating 5 handicap stalls. The stalls along the east wall of the building will be temporarily converted to handicap stalls to make up fo the loss. For an access diagram click HERE.
- 11st will once again be closing. On May 1, 10st will permanently open and 11st will once again close.

March 16, 2012 - Update from Chad Geiger - Senior Manager Facilities
Today, 11st opens for vehicle and pedestrian traffic! This means that Kerby Centre is now accessed from our North parking lot by 11st and there is no need for the shuttle service. Kerby Centre staff, clients and volunteers send our thanks to the City of Calgary and CANA Construction for supplying the shuttle to ease access into the building while 11st was shutdown.
The LRT team has now shifted their focus to 10st and laying tracks. 10st will be closed for approximately 6 weeks while they work across the intersection with 7th ave. Access to Kerby Centre parking lots will remain intact however. We urge all Kerby Centre visitors to access the building via 11st.
Please pick up your editon of the April 2012 Kerby News and look for a more in depth article about LRT construction, the new addition/entrance, and important upcoming road/sidewalk closures.

February 15, 2012 - Update from Brenda Hill, Acting Senior Manager of Facilities
Beginning today for approximately two weeks, Enmax will be working in the north parking lot in the northwest corner. This will require the use of at least 5 parking stalls. The area will be cordoned off. Please direct any questions or concerns regarding this to me in the temporary absence of Chad Geiger. My number is 403 705-3254.

December 16, 2011 - Update from Chad Geiger, Senior Manager - Facilities
Other than battling the weather, progression on the construction of the Kerby Centre addition has been going well. Modifications to the FIT Room (removal of windows) are complete, and the alterations to the Boardroom are to be completed before the New Year. The Kerby Centre Dining Room has also re-opened and is serving hot meals once again.
Access into Kerby will remain the same (through the North sliding doors) until the addition is complete. It is currently expected to be finished in mid-March. Delays caused by a lack of materials are the reason for a later than expected completion date. Access to both Kerby Centre parking lots is still from 10th st. Covered walks are currently being constructed to protect visitors from snowfall and slippery surfaces.
Please contact me at 403-705-3248 or chadg@kerbycentre.com for more information or for clarifications on the LRT construction. Happy and safe holidays to all of you!
November 10, 2011 - Update from Chad Geiger, Senior Manager - Facilities
Construction to the interior of Kerby Centre has begun. Currently, alterations to the Boardroom as well as FIT Room are being done to accomodate the new addition and to supply it with power and electricity.
Please be advised that construction workers will be entering and exiting the building regularly to access the two rooms. Any construction work that poses a risk to visitors will NOT be done during regular buisness hours. All safety concerns from Kerby Centre have been consitently met with alternate solutions by the construction crews.
Construction on 7th ave and 11th st in front of Kerby Centre continues as well. Please expect some noise and vibrations irregularly as the ground is prepared to lay track for the C-Train. The intersection is expected to re-open mid-January.
For more information please feel free to contact myself at chadg@kerbycentre.com or 403-705-3248. Again, thank you for your continued patience with this project.
